i'm wishing

starting today i get to help take care of a friends dog for the weekend. {her name is olive: she is a black goldendoodle}
tonight i drove over in the blizzard-like weather and played with Olive for almost an hour before braving the snow again...

and now i am wishing i had a dog.

paths + plans

it's nice not knowing what the future holds...
life would be boring if i knew what every decision i made would mean for the future...
i enjoy not knowing where i will be in a year {scary but exciting}

... for now i am i am going to enjoy today and try not to think {too hard} about what's in store down the road.

be silly, be honest, be kind ~ emerson

"I figured out that if I keep it up,
someday I'll probably get wise enough to be silly in public

...but I probably won't wait that long"

bottled up

"She held her grief behind her eyes like an ocean & when she leaned forward into the day it spilled onto the floor & she wiped at it quickly with her foot & pretended no one had seen"

i am no stranger to holding my emotions in
as a child i had plenty of practice
i thought i was {somewhat} over that phase

it's interesting how feelings sneak up on you when you least expect them to.

make you feel my love

well it's st. valentines day and i just wanted to send my LOVE to all my friends and family.
i am not really a fan of the commercialized side of this holiday - a holiday that is meant to celebrate love and affection between intimate companions {so says wikipedia}
i think it's sad that people expect their significant other to "prove" their love on valentines day...

i hope that i prove it every other day of the year as well.

goodbye snow : hello sunshine

i am so very {very very very} excited about the lovely weather we are going to have today {almost 50 degrees}
i think i am going to take a long stroll through the park on my way to the coffee shop before i have to sit down and grade projects...
and as soon as i finish grading, i am going to walk around town and enjoy every minute i can of the {no longer frigid} wind and the sunshine against my skin.
should be a splendorous afternoon in manhattan, ks.

music posters 1st edition

i have a habit of buying art posters from concerts and shows that i go to. local artists usually design and sell some great work, but other times i have trouble finding a poster for a particular show... and so i have decided that i will just begin to design my own to fill in the gaps in my collection... the first project was for a sufjan stevens concert this last october...

next on my list: mgmt & matt costa

best cookies {ever}

a few weeks ago i made the most delicious peanut butter oatmeal cookies {thanks tastespotting}
... and ever since my workout today all i can think about is one of these cookies
it looks like i might be doing some baking tonight.

Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookies
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup rolled oats (regular or quick-cooking)
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/3 cup peanut butter (crunchy or regular)
Peanut Butter Glaze
1/4 cup smooth peanut butter
1 tbsp milk
Preheat oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, oats, baking soda and salt.
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugars until light. Beat in egg and vanilla extract until smooth, then beat in the peanut butter. Blend in the flour mixture until the dough comes together and no streaks of flour remain.
Drop dough in 1-inch balls on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 11-13 minutes, until cookies are golden brown around the edges.
Allow to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before glazing.

happy {snow}

i suppose i am glad to have a snow day today {2 in a row is a record for k-state since i've been here} but considering the fact that i haven't had class since thursday, i may have trouble finding things to keep me busy...here's what i am thinking.

1. make yummy food
2. pour myself a cup of hot tea or coffee
3. continue reading Mark Twains autobiography {it's huge and only volume 1}
4. clean my house
5. run in the snow {and probably fall a lot}
6. take a hot bath
7. read some more
8. watch lovely french films
